  • Can you comment on the current demand for sustainable housing in Saudi Arabia?

Currently the Saudi Market has more demand to provide housing at an affordable rate and that meets their cultural and environmental needs. In 2017 the market share for sustainable residential buildings was more than 70% of the total projects in the Saudi construction market. And 2018 will see an increase in this share.

  • Any forecast on the next 5 years?

The forecast for 2018 will be an increase of 30-40% from 2017 and the total projected residential projects in 2018 will reach more than 250,000 square meters. And this number will incrementally increase over the next 5 years on a 25-40% rate annually.

  • How does it benefit developers to enter the Green Building Movement?

The real question is how can it NOT benefit them. Applying Green Building methods to residential projects is a win-win case where all stakeholders benefit on the economic, environmental and social pillar of sustainability. Initially, the owner of the project will benefit from this method by reducing the overall life cycle cost of running the building and will reduce maintenance requirements. The occupants will feel healthier and will be less likely to be absent or sick. The community will also benefit from engaging together if the site is designed in a sustainable method. The construction material market will benefit by reducing their overall carbon footprint, which will reduce the overall negative impact of climate change.

  • Who are the right people to attend your talk at The Big 5 Saudi and how does it benefit them to know about your topic?

Attending my session will enrich the attendees’ knowledge on the current real-estate market and how the Green Building movement is enhancing the way, people live. It will also increase their ability to engage with various stakeholders ranging from government officials, consultants, real-estate developers and even students. Therefore, it will be a great networking sessions with new statistics and educated forecasts for the next 3 to 5 years.
